DIGITAL TV was introduced in Jan, 2001.
This service operates parallel to current services until Jan 2012 where the
analogue service will cease in metropolitan areas.
In country areas the analogue service will continue until Jan 2012
There are set top boxs to convert DIGITAL signals to suit ANALOGUE TVs.
A new TV is still a good idea as DIGITAL TV will not force your conventional TV to become obsolete for at least another 2 years. Even then a converter box can be attached to watch digital channels.
If your current TV is providing a good picture utilise a set top box to view the extra channels. When DIGITAL is the only service your current TV may then be due for replacement.
